Makalu Base Camp Trek offers trekkers with the chance to explore the Makalu-Barun National Park. It is a nearly isolated national park with an area of 1500 square kilometers in the Eastern part of Nepal. This remote terrain stretches east from Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) National Park, between the high plateau of Tibet and the deep subtropical gorge carved by the Arun River. There are spectacular views of rugged Himalayan peaks, including Mt. Makalu (8463m), fifth highest in the world, Mt. Chamlang (7319 m) and Mt. Baruntse (7129m). Within 40 km, these high peaks descend to the Arun River at 670m. The Makalu-Barun Valley provides stunning contrasts, where high waterfalls cascade into deep gorges, craggy rocks rise from lush green forests, and colorful flowers bloom beneath white snow peaks.

Day 1

(FLY) KATHMANDU – TUMLINGTAR – CHICHIRA (1980m, 8hrs)

After breakfast, our representative will guide you to the Kathmandu airport for the morning flight to Tumlingtar. The breathtaking flight above green and white mountains is an marvelous experience. After 50 minutes of flight we arrive at Tumlingtar airport where we meet our crew members, make some arrangements and drive to Chichira.
Day 2

CHICHIRA – NUM (1560m, 7 HRS)

We start our trek to Num after a warm breakfast. We have a moderately paced walk via picturesque villages and lush mountain forest. After almost 7 hours of walk we arrive at Num offering great views on the both side and perched on the end.
Day 3

NUM – SEDUWA (1500m, 6 hrs)

The trail descends steeply trough the forest and terraced plots of lands. After we cross the Barun River the trail rises equally to the other side. As we arrive at the Makalu Barun National Park we register our permits and camp at the top of the village for overnight stay.
Day 4

SEDUWA – TASHIGAON (2100m, 5 hrs)

The trail is slightly ascending yet most of the part of the hike is flat and easy via the bushes. During your walk, you can see villages at a distance. Tashigaon is a big Sherpa village surrounded by verdant forest. You can also see prayer flags and most importantly breathtaking Himalayan panorama. We spend the night here.
Day 5

TASHIGAON – KHONGMA DANDA (3500m, 6 hrs)

Today is going to be a tough day as the trail assends throughout the day. The trail climbs over 1400 meter passing via the forest of Rhododendrons and Sal trees until you reach your destination. The trail gets even steeper as we corss the ridge and passes the kharka (grazing land). Finally, the route follows a series of rough stairs and a small lake ascending to the top of the ridge. From here we have short way down to Khongma.
Day 6

REST DAY

It is necessary to acclimatize ourselves with the atmospheric level before we climb further. We can also walk around the area and explore the nearby surroundings. The next day we take on the Shipton La.
Day 7

KHONGMA DANDA – DOBATE (2545 m, 6 hrs)

We climb for few hours to reach the summit of Shipton La after the lake Kalo Pokharai (3930m), passo over the Keke La (4,170m). The beautiful view of Chamlang (7321m), Peak 6 (6,524m) and Peak 7 (6,758m) can be seen from here. Finally we descend down to the beautiful valley of Dobate for overnight stay.
Day 8

DOBATE – YANGRI KHARKA (3557m, 6 hrs)

Today’s hike is a bit adventurous and strenuous leading towards the Barun River. For the first two hours the trek is steep and arduous with possibility of rocks falls and landslides. Then, the trail goes pleasant gaining altitude slowly until we arrive at Yangri Kharka (pasture land), situated at the base of the valley.
Day 9

YANGRI KHARKA – LANGMALE KHARKA (4410m, 5 hrs)

A moderate walk to the valley via yak pastures, lush forests and boulder fields leads us to Langmale Kharka. The valley walls tower imposingly above us during the start of the trek. We pass Merek as we make our way further up and notice a significance rise in the scenic Himalayan views. We stay back for the night here.
Day 10

LANGMALE KHARKA – MAKALU BASE CAMP (4870m, 6 hrs)

Today, we make it to the Makalu Base Camp. With well acclimatization with the atmosphere we walk up to the camp via Shersong. The trek route is flat and icy along with the snw clad mountains accompanying us. On the way to Shersong Mount Makalu comes into view. Further, as we walk to the camp the panorama view of majestic Himalaya continue surrounding us.
Day 11

EXPLORER MAKALU BASE CAMP

We can enjoy the whole day in the base camp and enjoy spectacular views of different mountains and peaks. From here we will have an opportunity to view magnificent south face Makalu and the complete panorama of Everest and Lhotse. Also,explore the surrounding lakes, glaciers and go for a short trek up from here if we wish or celebrate our accomplishment at the camp itself. Stay overnight here at the base camp and prepare to move back.
Day 12

MAKALU BASE CAMP – YANGRI KHARKA (3557 m, 6 hrs )

Take the last glimpse of Makalu and descend down from the base camp. On the way back we pass through through Shershong, Langmale Kharka and Merek. And finally stopping at Yangri Kharka for overnight stay
Day 13

YANGRI KHARKA – DOBATE (2545m, 6 hrs)

We continue to descend via rock falls, verdant forests and the valley and finally making to Dobate following the river banks of Barun. An overnight stay at Dobate.
Day 14

DOBATE – KHONGMA DANDA (3557m, 6 hrs)

The trail continues with a steep climb to Mumbuk (Nambuk) passing throught the forest of firs and rhododendrons. The trail continues via Keke La, Tutu La (Shipton’s Pass) and Kauma La and finally descendt to Khongma Danda again. We stop here for the day.
Day 15

KHONGMA DANDA – TASHI GAON (3500m, 6 hrs)

The trail starts descending steeply crossing Khongma la via Kali Pokhari through a dense forest. Finally, stop at indigenous Sherpa village of Tashigaon for overnight stay.
Day 16

TASHIGAON TO SEDUWA (2100 m, 5 hrs)

We retrace our steps as we exit the Makalu Barun National Park and descend down to Barun River. We then cross the hillside and come across villages and settlements as we move further down finally stopping at Seduwa again.
Day 17

SEDUWA – NUM (1500m, 5 hrs)

The trail steeply descends in the beginning further changing into a steep ascent just before we reach Num. The trail passes through small forests of bamboo and small villages. An overnight stay at Num.
Day 18

NUM – TUMLINGTAR (518m, 5 hrs)

The trail further ascends via Chirchira where the glorious vista of Mount Makalu delights us. Final trek of the trip ends as we reach Tumlingtar. We stay here for the night and prepare for early departure to Kathmandu on following day.
Day 19

(FLY) TUMLINGTAR – KATHMANDU (45 minutes)

Fly back to Kathmandu and rest throughout the day at hotel. In the evening we will join a fantastic celebration dinner together for the successful completion of Makalu Base Camp Trek.
